The 2012 Michigan Spring Art and Book Festival is now looking for artists and authors to sell and display their works.  We have rented the entire Laurel Park Place Mall in Livonia April 13th through 15th and will have lots of space for artisans, crafts people and visual arts talent.  Throughout the common areas of the center will be 6' tables for writers and 10' x 10' booth space for artists.  Author tables start at $90 per day and the artists booths are only $295 for the three day weekend. What better place to sell and show your artistic talents than a shopping mall?

The weekend is free to the public and will have lots of no cost professional development for creative people. Lectures, discussions and workshops by Monica Marie Jones, Elizabeth Atkins, Sylvia Hubbard, Zahra Huber, eBooks2Go and others will give insight into the worlds of art, broadcast journalism, publishing and eBook conversion. Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:00 p.m. we will have our "Gentle to All Ears" poetry sessions and family friendly open mic poetry recitals. Our "Celebrity Read Out Loud" places students with local celebrities and mentors as they read books every thirty minutes. Join Southfield Mayor, Brenda Lawrence, Channel 955 on air personalities "Bg" and "Ace" plus Tony Trupiano from the "Tony Show" and many more for these free readings.

Our R2Books program will donate 1,000 brand new books to students from the area.  Fifty schools, churches and civic organizations will be selected to receive 20 book certificates each.  These book certificates may be redeemed by students, kindergarten through twelfth grade, for any age appropriate book, no cost or obligation. Don't forget to bring the children and those who are young at heart to this free family friendly festival.

Applications for each event are now on line at:

Log on now to reserve your table or call (313) 446-2262 for additional details. Looking to travel or living away from the Detroit Area?  Check out our festivals in Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Nashville.  These websites will have more details.

Looking forward to working with you.

Hi, I stumbled upon this group and I am relieved. I have been toying with the idea of going to invest in doing regular art shows for a while. I did one show in Ohia about 10 years go, made just enough to get home to DE. I was under and overwhelmed by the expierence. However, I have been wanting to do it again. So me and my husband travelled to the Harlem Art show just to see it- again overwhelmed and under. I passed Mr. Frazier by because I really felt- I don't know a little intimidated. I just know that he and many other artist are putting the hard work in and I am still on the outside trying to figure out do I want to just in the deep......  I probably sound ridiculous, but who else can you talk to about this type of aniexty. I have made plans to do the October Gallery in PA- a little nervous because between now and then I have to save and get all the things needed to do a show.  But I am encouraged to have read some the comments here because I can't wait for a gallery to discover me or think I am worthy of them- I am convinced I am a good artist and I am going to show it. Thanks for listing everything I would need- No one talks about that!

I too am interested in learning about members experiences with the West Oak Lane Jazz and Art Festival.  Particularly, do attendees purchase work from exhibiting artists?  Have participating arts made a return on their investment: exhibitors fee, travel, hotel and meals expenses, plus a meaningful profit?  In other words, has any exhibiting artist made at least two times their investment? Three times? Four times or more of their investment?

I see an image of work by  Woodrow Nash on the festival's exhibitor application page.  He would be a good resource for answers to questions.

You're right, Kathleen. That's always something I have to consider when I consider applying to a long distance show. But sometimes, I like to take a risk and try out a new show because I realize that I have to spend some to make some ($$). As far as the square goes, I cannot answer your questions because I haven't switched to it yet. If you go to their website, I'm pretty sure you'll find the answers. It's www.squareup.com. All the best!

I too am interested to learn of others experience with the Pan African Film Festival.  Several  years ago  when I found it I thought it might be a great place for my artwork.  However, travel expenses from the east coast plus entry fee gave me pause to consider .

On another note, which phones are used with the square?

Hi Group! Has anyone applied for the upcoming Pan African Film Festival in LA in February? Have any of you participated in this before? If so, I'd love to hear of your experiences. Thanks!

Which phone do you use with the square?  Any particular apps needed?  What about monthly service fees?  Any other particulars about phone options is appreciated!

Greetings all,

Thanks to Linc for creating this group!  This should be a valuable resource for travelers.  And thanks to Debbie for the square question.  Good to learn how it is working out for folks.

I'll be back!
