Comment by Myra Kooy 10 hours ago Hi All,
I am so happy to invite you to explore participating in a new store front collective in Beacon NYS!!!!
Here is a link to the Beacon art scene http://beaconarts.org/ this is a GREAT location.
As of right now I have 5 people that are excited about participating in this art collective storefront. It is important that this group is diverse in every way and embraces all artists that art work fits harmoniously.
As listed below
me Myra Kooy a beautiful middle aged black woman out of NJ
Nathan Favors a hand crafted wooden bowl designer - he is this fabulous older Black man working out of Chalfont, PA
http://wwwBowlmakeronline.com
Anthony Boone is an abstract painter that I have watched grow over the past year a beautiful young black man out of NJ
Deborah Reese, has an amazing way of reinterpreting her world in paint a beautiful older White woman from VT and NYS
http://www.reesepaintings.com/paint_gallery.html
http://reesepaintings.blogspot.com/
Stephen Dykstra a middle aged white man out of NY an amazing wood furniture designer that has started as a you kid and developed an interesting style and amazing care to detail a true artist
I have feelers out to an amazing stain glass artist creating totems out of glass an abstracts that you'll constantly find something new in just beautiful work, a mobil artist her work is brilliant in color and seems to be ethereal, yet solid and creates an amazing balance of negative and positive space in air and a Korean traditional paper artist that pushes the viewer to question the material and want to reach out and touch her layers of paper, color and use of the environment makes me stop in my tracks. There is also an amazing young white mother jeweler that may join us.
For more information about getting involved, the monthly fee and percentage please e-mail me Myra2b@gmail.com call 551-804-7262
This Gallery collective is modeled after another store in Ocean Grove. She has been able to keep her store up and growing for years while all the others on Main Ave. have come and gone. The idea is artists helping each other rather than individually trying to foot the bills and marketing and everything else by themselves - pooling resources. I am excited to promote and represent a solid level of cultural and artistic diverse artists while embracing the unique, the unexpected, the Highest Artistic Quality with clean lines, to make a harmonious selling environment. It is also my hopes to participate in Beacon's community activities like the monthly open gallery hoop and Windows on Main and promote activities for the community. There is so much this space may be able to offer over time, but for now it is getting it up and running.
Peace, Much love and light,
Myra
Comment by LaShawnda Crowe Storm on April 18, 2012 at 4:12pm Visual: Artists Sought to Create Pieces for Indiana Black History Public Art Legacy Project

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC), the Indiana Historical Bureau (IHB) and the Indiana Department of Administration (IDOA) seek artists to create sculpture works for the Black History Public Art Legacy Project.
Under a mandate from the Indiana General Assembly, and with concurrence of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, it was determined that a public art legacy project should be created and installed in the Indiana State House, located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Artists are invited to submit an application to design and fabricate one or both traditional bronze busts for the Indiana State House. The works are intended to celebrate the life and public service of two African American legislators who served the State of Indiana. The IAC, the IHB, and the IDOA will coordinate the selection process to select the artist/s for this commission. Both sculptures will become part of the permanent historic sculpture collection managed by the IDOA and will be on public display.
One bronze bust will be of James Sidney Hinton (1834-1892), the first African American elected to the Indiana General Assembly (1880). The second bronze bust will be of Julia Carson (1938-2007), whose career culminated in her service as a Congresswoman for Indiana from 1997-2007. The busts will be installed in designated niches, with unique backdrops and reading rails, around the State House Rotunda. The IAC Request for Proposal and photographs and information related to the subjects are available at: http://www.in.gov/arts/2756.htm.
Applications must be completed in the IAC’s online grant system at: http://www.in.gov/arts/onlineapplications&reports.htm.
The Indiana Arts Commission is committed to the vision of the arts everywhere, every day, for everyone in Indiana.

Comment by Judi Lynn on January 27, 2012 at 3:04pm Hello! I'm an artist at the beginning of my career in Atlanta. I've been painting in acrylic and/or digital for most of this past year. My goal is to be able to make a living with my work and give up to half of the proceeds back to the community. I've always felt that my gift was given for more than just creating something nice to look at. Art is a tool..the means to an end. Being free to paint every day has been a blessing. but the blessing comes at a price. I lost my job in March of this year. I've been blessed to stay afloat until December, but that blessing has run it's course. Now I find myself losing the roof over my head and everything in it soon. My horror is that I will lose the tools of my trade...my paintings...supplies, equipment - and the ability to get up in the morning and create. I will be homeless in 10 days with no place to go. Funds are gone. My desire is to continue working. Jobs have been out of reach for me. I haven't even scored an interview, regardless of my skills. (I am a printing professional and graphic artist.) If anyone knows of any possible opportunity for work, a studio space and/or housing for someone in my position, please get in touch with me. I am determined to keep going! A shelter was not in my plans. Blessings!
