Profile Information

Evan Cablayan is a Mixed Media Visual Artist of African-American descent from Los Angeles, California. A product of the famed Fine Arts Department of Howard University in Washington, DC, Cablayan is one of the first students of Howard to also be a member of the Howard University football team.
Painting since the age of 15, Cablayan’s early work awarded him placement in a fellowship from 1994 to 1998 with the renowned Otis Art College along with 12 other talented young students; students were chosen out of 3,000 in the LA area to further artistic talents . Cablayan also received 3 top honors over his high school career placing in the University of Southern California High School Art Showcase, placing first above the 5,000 paintings submitted yearly. Cablayan made the choice to attend school on the east
coast to further pursue sports and academics and art, looking to gain a new perspective through the arts
and life.
Vivd colors and unconventional imagination is where Cablayan flourishes, drawing from the greats as Dali, Picasso, Basquiat, and Khalo. Cablayan attempts to take the viewer into dreamscape perspectives, with collage and paint as his primary outlet. Cablayan remarks: ”I am Photoshop before the creation of Photoshop! “ . Cablayan spent a year in the Turks and Caicos Islands to expand his use of color in projects; the Caribbean influence is evident in his latter works as an adult in to the present.
Evan Cablayan currently resides in Washington , D.C. and is a fellowship artist in the Brookland Artspace Lofts, a strong collective of visua/performingl artists looking to expand their base and creative horizons.
With over 35 pieces sold, Cablayan is a true emerging talent looking to infect the world with his unconventional creativity.
