I began painting in order to visually express the stories I had previously only been able to express through poetry. I use visual art as a second language. Together, both mediums complement each other and add to my tool set helping me fulfill my purpose as an artist.

My latest series, Can You Hear Me Now!, began as a satirical commentary, using poems I have submitted for publication in "mainstream" literary journals that have been rejected by editors. Utilizing discarded satellite dishes as an artistic device, I am able to repurpose a communication device that is environmental clutter into a communication device of cultural significance. Additionally, I am able to create works of art that bring attention to social and political subjects I feel need more voice.

ha! "lit career" - i've been writing poems (good and bad) for over 20 years; my mama didnt even know that until about 4 years ago when my sister blurted it out during thanksgiving dinner... up until i started sending out submissions a couple months ago, i dont think 5 people have seen my 'serious' work... but welcome to the blog - please keep all guffaws inside the car until the ride comes to a complete stop.

It was great to see my brother. Your paintings reflect spiritually strong messages, and if they run hand in hand with your writings, like I think they will, your books are also treasures.

Geoffrey,
It was such a pleasure meeting you today at Hammonds House for the Ronnie Phillips opening. Our Kara Walker dialogue was very engaging. We must all get together and do it again sometime. We'll send you the photographs that were taken within the next couple of days.
