As I was saying.....When I say African American Galleries in American Art Museums I am speaking of  showing off our great artistic tradition (1619 to present)  That is what museums do- put together a collection of galleries to show off the contributions of the art of people of different ethnicities, cultures, from all over the world, throughout history. Is there even one Art museum in this country that has an African American art gallery to exhibit the art of African American people??? Why is that? Think about it-- Why is that?  Why is that I repeat. Why don't THEY want that to happen???? I hope you understand that Art museums are tax exempt and therefore commited to the public good. We are tax payers and represent a distinct racial segment in this society with a distinct history and culture an obvious segment of the "public good." As much as some Black artists would love to slip by without being detected as Black. Everybody knows who you are. America was built on knowing just that. WE, THEY see you! Thats what America is all about 1619 to present.

Poor Little Black Boy Walking down the street. Munching a bag of Skittles. Didn't know whom he'd meet. Ran into the Devil. Looked into his eyes. Got a hateful look. And a bullet by surprise. Poor Little Black Boy. Laying dead in the street. His American Dream. Lay bloodied at his feet. He ran into the Devil. And didn't know what to do. "Run Little Black Boy" If this happens to YOU.

but after so many years of waiting in the back of the BLACK ARTS BUS watching all the BLACK WRITERS, MUSICIANS, SINGERS, ACTORS and PERFORMANCE ARTISTS come forward and take their duly deserved seats in the front of the AMERICAN and WORLD ARTS BUS, I am weary and just can't take it any more. THE VISUAL ART OF BLACK PEOPLE IN AMERICA is in the forefront of world Art of the 20th and 21st centuries. How long will it take our Great Black Thinkers and Doers to recognize that fact??? Can I get an…

Take a LOOK- SEE The Art

999 or shall I say "NO NO NO Cornell" Art is about the artist's identity, and the time, place and vision of the artist. This is the only determination to the art of a people. A great people, in a given time and place  will inspire great artists to do great art. We have to look and see to know the art. So few people have the time or the inclination to learn the ART OF LOOKING and SEEING. Great Art is all around us.  Not "the art of living" Take a LOOK SEE. The art of looking and seeing  what the… Continue

Thank you for the beautiful works of art you have created over the years for they inspired my work and helped me realize the value  of FINE  ART. Your work played a big role during my thesis for my BFA. So again, it is an honor to be able to contact you and thank you.

Ms. Ringgold.

I need to tell you what an inspiration, and impression you have bestowed upon me.  I have love the feel of fiber from a child.

It is true I started drawing at a very young age.  But the feel of that old channel spread on my bed remains with me always.

I can remember the awe struck feeling of watching my great-grandmother while she made those wonderful quilts.  The smell of the old Polaroid pictures and the stinky stick remains forever in my mind.

For YEARS, all I could see in my mind's eye was how to merge them together.....And then, there was you and your wonderful work!!

THANK YOU!! Thank you for showing me I was not crazy and YES ANGLO SAXON PEOPLE, Quilts can be Art!!!

Ms. Ringgold,

Your work is inspiring, and I have enjoyed researching about you as an artist. My design course just completed a collage project, and Ishared your website with my entire class. I saw eyes opening (aha moments) as they saw the "Tar Beach" series.
