The Leading Voice for the Black Arts Community.

Controlled Chaos
Born and raised in Philadelphia, drawing and making marks on surfaces was as natural as breathing to me. Didn't everyone?
I got my high school diploma in Commercial Art and attended Temple University's Tyler School of Art with a focus on Graphic Design. Before obtaining my degree, however, I married and began my adventures as an army wife. At each post, I sought out opportunities to create. I immersed myself in the art of ceramics focusing on glazing techniques. I entered a community art competition at Fort Polk, LA securing first place in oils. For many years thereafter, I survived as a worker bee in the printing industry. My creative spirit, laying in wait for so long, began to exhale . . .
At this point in my life, I find myself caught up in things ethereal and inspirational. My thoughts wander the universe trying to find meaning in my earthly existance. I approach the canvas with the intent of bringing those wanderings into the visual.
And I enjoy the feeling of paint. lol I adore the texture, the layered color, the sparkle, the irridescence of mixed media on canvas! I'm often told that people want to touch my pieces. I agree with them as my fingers explore the textures that evolve as I work.
Currently, my base medium of choice is acrylic and water based paints.
And then, there is my love of the computer as a tool. I am up to the challenge of creating texture through color and pattern, using the stylus as my brush.
I liken my abstractions to clouds. Instead of seeing bunnies, however, my hope is that the viewer will come away from each piece with a story of their own. My wish is that each piece transcends boundaries of race, gender and age, and instead tap into the spirit with visual cues that bring back memories of experience. My work has only begun.
