Artist Statement

“My life and my art is a unity of purpose, spirit, and the moment transcending. I have been creating works in painting, graphic design and Photography, with a recent application in sculpture. Many art critiques and publications have described my work as provocative, innovative, aggressive, colorful, diverse and complex. Over the past six years, I have focused all my exhibitions around a general theme of social visual media with detail towards racial identity, social and institutionalized inequality, individual and organized racism and political dysfunction. “My intention orchestrated in my visuals is to focus on the meaning, myth and stereotype of the word (BLACK), apropos of culture, race, politics, environment, economics and class. I strive for internal change within self and the process of creating is extremely therapeutic, thus transcending in my artistic vision”. ~ Julius Lyles
