Kojo Kamau

The Columbus Museum of Art presented Kojo: Fifty Years in Photography. The exhibition included more than sixty photographs, both color and black and white, reflecting his five decades working in the medium. The exhibition addressed themes that run throughout the photographer’s career such as community, travels, portraits of local and international artists and musicians, and political and social issues.

Kojo Kamau, a Columbus, Ohio native has exhibited his photographs throughout the Midwest and has collected numerous awards including the Ohioanna Library Career Award and the Columbus Winterfair Award of Excellence. His forty year photography retrospective, sponsored by the Upper Arlington Ohio Cultural Arts Commission, was voted one of the best exhibitions of the year by the Columbus Dispatch Newspaper.

His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus Metropolitian Library and the Columbus Foundation. His photographs have been exhibited in one man and invitational exhibitions throughout the United States, including the Indianapolis Art Center, Dillard University, Bowling Green State University, Northern Kentucky University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Akron University, Ohio University, the Chicago Center of Science and Industry and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In Columbus he has exhibited at the Columbus Museum of Art, the Ohio Art Council’s Riffe Gallery, The Ohio State University, Columbus College of Art and Design, King Arts Complex and the Kiaca Gallery.

His international exhibitions include Gallery 44 Center for Contemporary photography, Toronto, Canada: Culturefest “93, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa: and the Central Bank of the Bahamas, Nassau, Bahamas.

Kojo, who has captured local and national celebrities on film, studied at Columbus College of Art and Design, The Ohio State University and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a retired chief medical photography at The Ohio State University and is currently a photography instructor at Columbus State Community College.

That's great that you had an exhibition at my cousin's Charity's spot I'm sure she was excited to have you exhibit there and I'm sure she was captivated by the images as am I. That's cool very cool. Wow Bruh you are a walking historian. I love Black & White photos of people it gives them a dated feel from another time. However you're photos of some of the places you've been seem to tell their own story, the colors are so vivid and clear it makes me feel as if I'm there. Excellent photos!!

Definetely. I try to keep the creative vibe alive as much as possible. I was in Columbus

in July I got a chance to visit my cousin's coffee shop it's called (Urban Spirit) you may have already been there but if you haven't you should check it out. It's on Long Street near downtown next to a historic Black Theatre.
