Monicka Hasan (Artist Statement)

Through the medium of wood, pastels and paper, I seek to explore and show the intensity of a single moment captured in time.  I believe that a captured moment in a person’s life is pregnant with all of the history that brings us to that moment in time and shapes the way we perceive our future, determining how we move forward.   I believe that color and texture and how they play with and against each other are enough to carry the art.  I choose not to scream overly-complex theories or ideas but instead purposefully use the contrast of colors and textures to explore key elements, bringing forth the subtle comfort and pain we explore within ourselves.  My work most readily identifies with Cubism.
