Profile Information

Artist Myesha Francis, is the owner of M Francis Gallery located in New Orleans Arts District. She holds a B.A. in Art History and Studio, along with a M. A. in Museum Studies.

Her work encompasses the fullness of life. It is full of texture and color which she uses to create rich paintings full of vibrancy and movement. Francis moves seamlessly between styles as she continues to create wonderful works of art in many different genres including painting, collage and pastel drawings.

Whether it is an abstract jazz painting or a figurative work of art, Francis creates work with the intent of moving to another level spiritually and emotionally with the foremost intention of creating a work of art that speaks to her heart and in turn speaks to the heart of others and inspires them in some way.

M Francis Gallery features work from contemporary African American artists. In time, it will become an epicenter for thought provoking and inspirational art through providing, exhibiting and making available art work that transcends words and has the power to positively affect the spaces and lives for which they are created and displayed. The ultimate vision is to be a clear and present voice on motivational and inspirational art in the world.

Giving Thanks

Posted on December 8, 2011 at 10:08am 2 Comments

The older I get, I look back and I see that time sure does fly. It waits for no one. As I give thanks for all the things around me, I realize that on too few occasions have I stopped long enough to fully enjoy the many experiences that I've had. It's always been, what's the next thought or next bill that needs to be paid etc. And so...I decided some time ago to try giving thanks through what I do and to really engage and enjoy and commune with the experience. It's been life changing...or art…

Looking for Inspiration

Posted on May 30, 2011 at 1:29pm 0 Comments

I look for inspiration in just about everything; everywhere I go, everything someone says or does, books, pictures, landscapes, the clouds, flowers, water, whatever ….pretty much everything. Like most of us, less than half of what I think actually comes out into the universe in words and even less of the colorful visions I have ever manifest.

I realized that sometimes its because inspiration often comes at the most inopportune times such as walking in the grocery store, driving, or…

Art That Speaks - The work of Horton Humble

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 2:53pm 0 Comments

As a writer as well as an artist, Horton Humble's art works are productions of something so abstractly complex while yet still fully posessing an articulate style of communication. What Horton has done is unintentionally combined techniques that you may know well such as cubism and expressionism to create what I call an articulate form of cubic communication art.

As a reference, I would like to bring your attention to the work of the late Jean-Michel Basquiat, the young artist with…

Lesson in the Parlor

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 10:00am 1 Comment

The work of Najee Dorsey “In the Parlor” speaks to us on so many different levels! We often hear the statistics of broken homes in the African American community. Quietly, while it may be some of our secret closets of shame because we know that the exaltation of the black man is paramount to the success of the black family. And when it is all said and done, it begins at home, in our youths.…

Myesha, Please send me some photos of Stoker's work. One of the bronze artist featured on my site is an artist who lives in Dallas if he has not moved. His name is David Newton and he is the artist who did the Freeman's Memorial in Dallas. This is an incredible pulic work.

Myesha, Thanks for your comments. I very much enjoyed your interview with Manuelita Brown. Every collector should have a bronze sculpture by her. She is where high quality, affordability and cultural relevancy intersect. Years ago, I made it my mission to find and connect with African American artists working in bronze. I met Manuelita a few years ago and purchased a small bust from her of Matthew Henson. During this time, I also had the opportunity to visit with Artis Lane in her home in LA and to connect with Tina Allen before her untimely passing. I find it interesting that all of these sculptors lived or are currently living on the west coast.

I like your analogy on how collectors are connected to their collections. I also like your writing style and look forward to reading more from you in the future. Thanks again for your comments.
