Kevin A Johnson-Artist Statement
A lot of my images come from my life experiences. I remember images from my child hood such as my friends and family that give me inspiration for some of my paintings. I love using bright colors and painting images of people and how they move through life, it’s amazing to me how we can change from day to day. It doesn’t matter if I paint realism or images from my imagination I just love to see what evolves.
While I was in the military it made me appreciate people even more, so I paint images of angels and positive figures or anything that can make everyone feel good about themselves. I work in oil, which gives me the freedom to blend and move paint at will. Using computers gives me the opportunity to create and finish a painting in one sitting because sometimes I can’t wait to see the image finished. I love using clay because; I can see my ideas in three-dimensional form instead of a flat image.
Art gives me the freedom to create from nothing if there were no pencils or paint or even computers I would probably have tried to create that too.
Some of my influences are other artist such as my Aunt Mary Patterson,Steve Mathews, J Clark Wider, Frank Morrison, Kevin A Williams (WAK) Larry Poncho Brown, and Charles Bibbs, believe me there are more.
