Pamela J. Joyner Joins J. Paul Getty Trust Board

The Board of Trustees of the J. Paul Getty Trust announced today that Pamela J. Joyner has joined the Getty’s Board of Trustees effective immediately.

“We are so happy that Pamela J. Joyner is to join the Getty Board of Trustees,” said Maria Hummer-Tuttle, Board chair. “Her leadership in the arts has been influential and wide-ranging; we welcome her broad experience and depth of knowledge.”

Pamela J. Joyner has nearly 30 years of experience in the investment industry. She is the Founder of Avid Partners, LLC where her expertise has been the alternative investment arena.

Currently, Ms. Joyner is focused on her philanthropic interests in the arts and education. Ms. Joyner is a trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago, a trustee of the Tate Americas Foundation, and a member of the Tate International Council and the Tate North America Acquisitions Committee. She is also a member of the Director’s Circle of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and a member of the Modern and Contemporary Art Visiting Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the education arena, Ms. Joyner serves on the board of the Art & Practice Foundation. Previously, Ms. Joyner’s philanthropic involvements have included serving as a member on the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities as well as a trustee of Dartmouth College and Chair of the Investment Committee, a trustee of the New York City Ballet, a board member of the School of American Ballet, a trustee and co-chair of the San Francisco Ballet Association, a board member of the MacDowell Colony, and a trustee of the Asian Art Museum as well as other arts and educational organizations.

Initiated by Ms. Joyner in 1999, The Pamela J. Joyner Alfred J. Giuffrida Collection of Abstract Art is widely recognized as one of the most significant collections of modern and contemporary art by African American and African Diasporic artists in the world. The collection is a catalyst for pioneering artistic, scholarly and public initiatives including a major nationwide touring exhibition curated by Christopher Bedford and Katy Siegel commencing in fall 2017, as well as Four Generations, a critical anthology of new research and writing from art historians and curators at the world’s leading institutions, which explores the critical contributions that artists of African descent have made to the evolution of visual art in the 20th and 21st centuries. Joyner and Giuffrida also inaugurated an artist residency programme in 2014 in Sonoma, California.

“It is an honor to have Ms. Joyner join the Board,” said James Cuno, president of the J. Paul Getty Trust. “We very much look forward to her leadership in the Getty’s important work worldwide.”
